12/03/2010 - New main park
The park, due to open in mid-May 2010 will be one of the major activity hubs for Churchlands Green.  Local residents will have access to an immaculate open space where they can come together as part of a wider community and enjoy spending time with their families and friends.

The design features of the park are a clever mix that encompasses relaxation, active leisure and exposure to local culture and learning.

Key elements of the park will include:
  • Provision of a BBQ facility and picnic tables;
  • A playground for local families;
  • Fitness stations linked to a shared use path;
  • Half court basketball;
  • Custom concrete seats designed to commemorate the former university campus; and
  • Football goal posts for informal kick abouts

The parkland will also showcase a number of different pieces of public art that celebrate the natural environment and the educational heritage of the site.   Within the park, there are two bird roosting poles that are made out of recycled materials.  The structures will encourage nesting birds and micro-bats to establish in the area.

In the amphitheatre, artwork which depicts knowledge and learning will commemorate the history of the site which saw Churchlands Green begin life as a Catholic school, change to a teacher’s training college and then on to a university.  It has a long history of education.
