Churchlands Green is now Churchlands GreenSmart
In recognition of its commitment to the environment, Churchlands Green is now a fully accredited HIA GreenSmart Estate.
To qualify for GreenSmart accreditation, a residential estate must "demonstrate a commitment to creating minimal environmental impact and / or net environmental improvement for the environment through the land subdivision design and construction."
Which, in a nutshell, means being particularly friendly to the environment - not just now, but in the future too.
How we achieved our GreenSmart status
From the moment the first plans were drawn, sustainability has been a major priority for Churchlands Green, and has encompassed everything from site planning and energy efficiency to solar access and the utilisation of open spaces.
Here is a snapshot of some of the key sustainability principles upon which Churchlands Green is based.
Retention of trees and landform
Considerable effort has been made to retain as many existing mature trees in Churchlands Green as possible. Lot layouts ensure valuable trees are protected, and streets have been designed to retain them in the verges. These trees will not be able to be removed, now or in the future.
Energy efficiency
Churchlands Green has been designed to ensure lots are oriented for good
solar access. All dwellings will be designed to minimise heating and cooling by
incorporating passive solar design principles which maximise energy
efficiency and winter solar access.
Water and waste management
During demolition of the ECU buildings, contractors will be required to
reuse and recycle a significant percentage of demolition waste. All dwellings
will be designed to minimise water consumption. All fixtures and fittings
should have AAA rating and homeowners will be encouraged to create garden areas
that require the minimum in water use, pruning, feeding and spraying.
Homeowners will also be encouraged to separate recyclable and non-recyclable
waste.
Community development
Planning sessions are to be arranged to present and explain the sustainability
principles and practices to all purchases within Churchlands Green.
Social benefits
As well as being committed to the enviroment, Churchlands Green is equally committed to the wellbeing of its residents too. Cycle and walking routes will promote a healthy lifestyle, and leafy parks, active spaces and public art areas will help form strong community bonds.
